Writing Instruments require very little maintenance from an official Service Centre. However, there are some simple things that you can do to care for your product.
Holding a collection of some of the finest fountain pens, Lapis Bard comes with the following points to help you have your pens for a longer period of time.
- Make sure you are using fresh ink and not the ink that has been opened for over a year.
- Clean the nib of your fountain pen periodically in every couple of months.
- Rinse the nib in tepid water.
- Avoid the use of alcohol or other solvents.
- Make sure you shake out the excess water after rinsing.
- If you're traveling in flight or train, your fountain pen will be exposed to fluctuating air pressure. The tip here would be to uncap the pen with the nib pointed upwards, after the journey.
- To save yourself from sudden leaks during journeys, either keep it empty or fill it up with ink.
- To avoid the ink to dry off, always cap the pen after use.
Tips for the Roller Ball refills
- Keep the rollerball away from materials to avoid ink coming out of the refills.
- Retract the tip of the rollerball pens in order to avoid ink leakage.
Ballpoint pens are handy and great for writing too. One tip to keep them going is to not handling its retraction mechanism by yourself. Lapis Bard has Service Centres for its customers, so you can always leave it to them for proper handling of your pen.
Again, the retraction mechanism of pencils can be challenging as well as crucial. So, leave it to our Customer Service Persons.
Your writing instrument can be easily damaged by external forces. The best way to keep them safe is storing them in a soft leather pouch or bag. This will prevent unwanted scratches.
Your Lapis Bard writing instrument is covered by an international guarantee for a period of 24 months from the date of purchase against faults in materials and workmanship, irrespective of the country of purchase. Your Lapis Bard writing instrument will be repaired free of charge, within this period, provided that the fault falls within the terms of this guarantee. Damage and/or defects caused by fair wear and tear, accidents, use which is unreasonable or inconsistent with Lapis Bard's instructions, dismantling or repair by persons other than authorised Lapis Bard repair specialists, or the use of components or accessories other than those recommended by Lapis Bard are not covered by this guarantee. Leads, erasers and ink refills, exhausted in the course of normal use, are also excluded. This guarantee is only valid provided that the guarantee card is properly completed by a Lapis Bard shop or authorised dealership from which your writing instrument is purchased and returned with your Lapis Bard writing instrument. Should your Lapis Bard writing instrument require attention, please send or take it to a Lapis Bard Service Centre or Store, enclosing the completed guarantee card. If sending your writing instrument by post, we recommend that you pack it securely in a padded envelope and insure it prior to mailing. For fountain pens, also remove the cartridges or the converter. Please note that your rights under the guarantee are subjected to your compliance with Lapis Bard's instructions. Please read the instructions carefully. This guarantee is additional to your statutory rights.

Made to the very highest quality, Lapis Bard leather pieces are unique, beautifully designed and superbly executed. Leather is a natural product, and this means that it requires care and attention over time. In case of marking, wipe the leather with a damp cloth and then wipe it dry. For stubborn marks, a small amount of neutral shoe polish cream can be used with a dry cloth. Our leather will develop its own character and patina with age, making it unique to its owner. Lapis Bard do not recommend the use of alcohol or other solvents on any of our leather products as this will irrevocably damage the surface. Our hardware on the logo, zip and other metal fittings are made from a high specification finish, which ensures that it does not deteriorate through tarnishing. Although scratches cannot be removed, any other marks can be cleaned using a damp cloth and then polished dry to remove any excess moisture.

General Care Comments
When not in use, small and large leather items should always be stored in the original pouch. If your items are not going to be used for a long period of time we recommend that you pad out the inside with tissue paper to maintain the shape. Lapis Bard also recommends that you do not overfill your item of leather, as this can distort the shape. It is advisable to avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight, as the colour of your leather piece might be affected. Lapis Bard accepts no liability for damage, defects or scratches caused by fair wear or tear, accident or misuse and repairs by persons other than Lapis Bard authorised repair specialists.
